Velma M. Rogers, 85 of Abingdon, passed away at 7:10 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born May 28, 1930 in Camden, Illinois, the daughter of Rev. B. Frank and Edna F. Settles Goodin.  She married Charles Buddy Rogers on November 16, 1952 in Bushnell.

Velma is survived by her loving husband Charles; her children, Kendal (Anne) Rogers of Monmouth, Judith (Steve) Brown of  Cairo, Missouri, Mark (Stacy) Rogers of Abingdon, Jennifer (Brad) Dalton of Abingdon and Joni (Dave) Rogan of Dardenne Prairie, Missouri; 11 grandchildren, Reanna Hoffman, Haley Hulet, Mandy Brown, Ryan Rogers, Katy Carter, Brittany Terwilliger, Logan Dalton, Hannah Dalton, Kylee Rogan, Megan Rogan and Ben Rogan, and 9 great-grandchildren; one brother, Dwight (Evelyn) Goodin of Rockford; and several nieces, nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Dorothy Goff.

Velma graduated from high school in Benton, Illinois.  She lived most of her adult life in the Abingdon area.  She was a homemaker.  She had also worked at Mitchell’s Grocery Store, Poland’s Grocery Store, the Brass Factory, Abingdon Bank and Trust and at the Abingdon School District 217 cafeteria.  She was a member of First Assembly of God in Abingdon and served as the church treasurer for many years.  She enjoyed flower gardening, quilting, crocheting and sewing.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2016 at First Assembly of God, 835 W. Martin St. in Abingdon.  Rev. Russ Witkowski will officiate.  Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
