CHICAGO (AP) — An open house memorial service for late Chicago chef Jean-Claude Poilevey is scheduled at one of his restaurants later this week.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed Sunday that Poilevey of Oak Park died in a car crash. Poilevey was 71. Authorities say the 15-car pileup happened early Saturday.
The Chicago Tribune reports the memorial service will be Thursday at La Sardine in Chicago. Poilevey’s other restaurant is Le Bouchon.
His wife Susanne Poilevey tells the Tribune that she plans to keep both restaurants going.
Prominent Illinoisans remembered Poilevey over the weekend for his influence on French cuisine in the city.
Illinois’ U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin says in a statement that he spent New Year’s Eve at La Sardine and Poilevey brought the best of France to Chicago.
