The Galesburg Tourism Council appointed Brenda Egenlauf to their board of directors during today’s regular meeting.

Egenlauf is a co-owner of Chez Willy’s and is replacing Annie Baker, who stepped down from the board after recently leaving the Kensington Catering & Banquet Facilities.

Egenlauf tells WGIL having representatives on the board who work in Galesburg’s food industry benefits the town’s tourism.

“Any kind of tourism involves all the restaurants in town,” she says, “and we are a huge part of the service industry in Galesburg.”

Also discussed was the upcoming 20 year anniversary celebration of the Discovery Depot Children’s Museum.

Galesburg Tourism Director Bill Morris says the celebration is set for May 24 and includes a presentation by Illinois Office of Tourism Director Corey Jobe, who will discuss the impact the state budget impasse has on tourism.

That presentation is set for 3 p.m. at the Discovery Depot.

“And then at 5 o’clock, there will be a celebration at the Prairie Players Civic Theatre honoring the 20th anniversary of the class of the Leadership Greater Galesburg,” Morris says, “as well as the 20th anniversary of the Discovery Depot.”

The celebration will also honor the Orpheum Theatre, which is celebrating it’s 100th year in Galesburg.
