Catholic hospital system spins off corporate investment arm

PEORIA, Ill. (AP) — Peoria-based OSF HealthCare, a nonprofit Catholic health system, is spinning off a corporate investment arm to financially back new technology and devices.

The health system issued a news release Wednesday to announce the launch of OSF Ventures. OSF HealthCare CEO Kevin Schoeplein says the strategy will give the health system earlier access to technology.

OSF Ventures has invested in four companies: Pieces Technologies in Dallas, Health Catalyst in Salt Lake City, Pulse Therapeutics in St. Louis and AVIA in Chicago.

OSF HealthCare is owned and operated by the Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis. It runs 11 hospitals, two colleges of nursing, a doctors group and a network of home health services.
