SYCAMORE, Ill. (AP) — Volunteers are working to make it easier for the public to study DeKalb County’s historical records.
The Joiner History Room, part of the Sycamore Public Library, is asking for public help as part of “Give Local DeKalb County.” It’s a 24-hour online giving challenge that is part of a national day of philanthropy.
The (DeKalb) Daily Chronicle reports the Joiner History Room is raising money for an endowment. It could pay for future capital expenses such as a photocopier and digitizing records which are easier to access.
The Joiner room had 1,800 visitors and emails last year.
The answers it provides range from family histories to Wal-Mart checking on whether its proposed DeKalb site had been a Native American burial ground. It hadn’t.
