AURORA, Ill. (AP) — Grades for thousands of students in East Aurora School District 131 could be incorrect because of the faulty setup of an online grading system.
Officials tell the (Aurora) Beacon-News the problems occurred in the last seven semesters. School Superintendent Mike Popp says the district will change past grades only if they improve when corrected. Current-semester grades could rise or fall if they’ve been incorrectly tabulated, however.
Officials say the error occurred when “dozens” of teachers missed a step in setting up online grade books. The software will give weight to assignments, but keep track of how often it’s applied so it can only affect a certain percentage of a grade.
Teachers often failed to activate the button, or did so in one class but not another.
