ANTIOCH, Ill. (AP) — Authorities are investigating the death of a 71-year-old woman whose body had numerous dog bites.
Lake County Sheriff’s Detective Christopher Covell says in a news release an autopsy on the woman from Antioch, about 50 miles northwest of Chicago, is scheduled for Wednesday. He says it isn’t known whether the woman was alive when she was bitten. He says her 23-year-old grandson told deputies it appeared the dogs attacked her.
He told deputies he left his grandmother at home with their German shepherd and a Labrador/chow mix Tuesday morning to go to work. He says when he arrived home about 5:30 p.m. his grandmother was unresponsive in the bedroom and the German shepherd was missing.
The German shepherd was later found and both dogs have been seized by animal control.
