The Orpheum Theatre is already well underway with a capital campaign that was announced today.

The historic theatre is celebrating its centennial year and is aiming to raise $850,000 for a number of restoration projects, technological upgrades and an endowment fund.

That’s according to Orpheum Executive Director Kevin Maynard who tells WGIL there are quite a few upgrades waiting in the wings.

“The more exciting one’s are definitely the state of the art sound system that will be installed based on this project,” Maynard says, “improving and upgrading our current HVAC system and new carpet, new stage drapes.”

Nearly $600,000 has already been raised toward the campaign goal. Thanks to those funds, Maynard says he expects the new sound system to be ready in time for the debut of the Red Carpet Series in September.

“That kind of outpouring of support has just been incredible, I mean, truly overwhelming,” Maynard says. “I am just so thankful for the support that we’re getting.”

A fundraising gala has been scheduled for August 13 in the Orpheum, where Maynard says tickets will be sold, music will be on hand and more announcements regarding the theatre’s centennial year celebration will be made.
