This weekend is packed with events in and around Galesburg.
The second annual Shave for the Brave Beards and Brews starts with a beard contest at 1 p.m. tomorrow in the Orpheum Theatre. Entry is $15 and trophies will be handed out for different categories.
Shave for the Brave organizer Crystal Wilson tells Galesburg’s Morning News on WGIL the beard contest isn’t exclusive to men.
“You can build a beard, ladies,” Wilson says. “Last year we had this category and we didn’t know what it was going to be like. They were amazing. People bought huge mustaches. One of our committee members, Margo Archie, she actually built it with doll hair.”
After the beard contest, a motor cycle show will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. tomorrow in the parking lot across from the Corner Connection. Also starting at 3 p.m., people can be shaved throughout the day.
Live music will include Ty Bates, the Dirt Road Drifters, the Hypotheticals and more. All funds raised go to the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.
Also tomorrow, a Father’s Day 5K will be at Lake Storey. The run starts at 8 a.m. and registration is $35 today or $40 on race day.
Starting today and running through tomorrow, More on 34 promises bargains from Galesburg to Aurora. Stops include the Hawthorne Centre Craft & Antique Malls in Galesburg, a fireman breakfast tomorrow in Wataga and Blues on the Fox in Aurora.
