AURORA, Ill. (AP) — Police say two men have been critically injured in a western suburb of Chicago after a possible driving lesson ended with the car upside down in a retention pond.
Aurora police say a 47-year-old man and a 33-year-old male relative from Chicago were trapped for about 10 minutes in water 4- to 8-feet deep Sunday morning before members of a fire department dive team were able to cut their seat belts and rescue the men. The men are being treated at separate hospitals.
Police say the 33-year-old man was practicing parking in a spot near the retention pond when the vehicle slid into the pond and flipped onto its roof. Police officers and a civilian bystander jumped into the pond and righted the car before the dive team took over.
