The Knox County Republican party is holding a dinner Thursday to honor a man who’s been an elected Republican official from the county for over three decades.
State Rep. Don Moffitt will be the guest of honor on Thursday night at a Republican party dinner at the Knox College Lincoln Room.
The Gilson Republican will be recognized and then will give remarks of his own.
Moffitt is in the home stretch of a 24 year career in the Illinois legislature.
He also served as Knox County Treasurer in the nine years leading up to his General Assembly tenure. Prior to that, he served stints as Mayor of Oneida and as a Knoxville Alderman.
Knox County Republican Party Chair Scott Erickson tells WGIL this is the party’s way of saying “thanks” to Moffitt for representing the 74th District.
“Don has always been a very strong supporter of the local party,” Erickson says. “He’s been the standard bearer for the area for a long time and this is just something that we’ll be able to give back. He’s done so much for the party and Republican candidates that we want to be able to give something back to him.”
Erickson says while this is a party event, this is a unique event to honor Moffitt, and a candidate rally for Republican candidates is expected in the fall.
