OREGON, Ill. (AP) — Railroad enthusiasts and bicyclists soon will be able to watch trains from a covered viewing platform in the northern Illinois city of Oregon.
The platform will be located at the Oregon Depot Museum on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe tracks. It’s expected to be ready by the end of next month.
Museum board Chairman Roger Cain tells the Dixon Telegraph the platform is designed as a tourist destination. The city has been developing bicycle trails and promoting itself as a biking destination.
The bike trails begin and end at the Oregon Depot Museum. They range from 22 to 45 miles to take bicyclists on scenic rides to points of interest.
