The District 205 school board is holding a special meeting tonight with the primary purpose of giving administration guidance on preparing for “doomsday”.
“Doomsday” is what Superintendent Ralph Grimm refers to as the pending reality of no General State Aid for K-12 schools next year.
Grimm and administration will seek input from members on a preparation plan, and then formulate an official plan to bring back for approval at the July meeting.
Before “doomsday scenario” discussion members can approve Reduction in Force notices for two Bright Futures preschool parent specialists.
Human Resources Director Jon Bradburn says these are federal grant funded positions that flow through the state but can’t be dispersed during the budget impasse.
The board will also vote on hiring Kim Deschamps as Director of Knox-Warren Special Education District, replacing the outgoing Dawn Michaud.
Deschamps is finishing coursework so members will also vote on Leyona Wiley to serve as acting director in the interim, which Bradburn expects will be for a few months.
