The Big Bang Boom fireworks display is returning to Lake Storey Park on the Fourth of July for it’s 20th year with a synchronized soundtrack.

According to a WGIL news release, it’s the largest fireworks display in the area.

Big Bang Boom is presented in conjunction with the City of Galesburg, United Way of Knox County and the Galesburg Broadcasting Company.

The display will be launched by J & M of Yarmouth, Iowa with a soundtrack produced by WGIL Operations Director Brian Prescott.

Galesburg Broadcasting General Manager Roger Lundeen tells WGIL that during the day highlights like The Laser frisbee tosses and a prize wheel are returning.

“What’s different every year is the soundtrack,” Lundeen says. “We get comments from people every year about what they like, about what they don’t like with music. We try different things and obviously we have some patriotic music in it, we have some non-patriotic music in it every year. We usually try and find some fun songs that are great to do fireworks to.”

Lundeen says the best view of the fireworks will be from the Lake Storey beach area and he recommends getting a spot around 6 p.m. for the 9:30 p.m. display.

In case of rain, Big Bang Boom will be rescheduled for July 5.
