A Cambridge woman is dead following a stabbing that has been linked to her husband.

Sixty-eight-year-old William Johnston is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, as well as other charges in the death of his wife, 68-year-old Cheryl Johnston.

A news release from the Henry County Sheriff’s Department says officers arrived at the couple’s West Court Street home shortly before 10 a.m. Wednesday in response to a domestic disturbance.

Authorities found Cheryl Johnston with a stab wound. After being transported to Hammond Henry Hospital in Geneseo, she was taken to Genesis East Hospital in Davenport, Iowa where she later died.

The sheriff’s office says William Johnston remains held on $2 million bond and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Henry County Court on July 25 at 1 p.m.
