For the second time in a week, Galesburg saw heavy rains and high winds, as a severe line of storms moved through the area yesterday.
Shortly after 3:30 p.m. Knox County Emergency Management Coordinator Tom Simkins told WGIL wind speeds exceeded 60 mph which led to an activation of the city’s warning sirens.
Simkins said yesterday’s sirens were sounded as a precaution for residents.
The afternoon downpour caused water to rise quickly, flooding many areas throughout town.
Galesburg Police Lt. James Bradford reported high water just north of the Bickerdyke Bridge and around the intersection of Grove and Seminary streets as calls came in.
Reports from 1 1/2 to 3 inches of rainfall were reported across the area yesterday.
