On the heels of last week’s Dallas shooting that took the lives of five police officers and amid a sea of criticism directed at law enforcement throughout the country, a local deli is showing their appreciation for the Galesburg Police Department.
Delino’s Italian Deli & Bakery sent trays of sandwiches and bags of chips to the GPD this morning.
Delino’s owner Craig Andrews says police do a hard job that deserves some recognition.
“They’ve had a pretty rough last few weeks in the news media and all over the United States,” Andrews says. “I just think they don’t get the recognition that they deserve sometimes.”
Andrews says giving the sandwiches was really just an act of kindness toward local cops.
“They take a pretty bad rap a lot of times,” he says. “I just wanted to show that they still have some support among the community.”
Andrews says it is important for people to realize that events like the Dallas shooting could happen anywhere.
