Mr. Charles R. “Chauncey” Cameron, 87, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 8:30 pm Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at Heartland Health Care Center.He was born June 25, 1929 in Galesburg, Illinois the son of Otis D. and Eleanor E. Guthrie Cameron. He married Lois I. Hager on May 30, 1963 in Galesburg. She preceded him in death on January 17, 2012.
Chauncey is survived by his two daughters, Lynne Bruyn and Stephanie Line both of Galesburg; his step son, James M. (Delores) Quinn of Galesburg; his one sister, Sandra K. (David) Murphy of Princeville, Illinois; his sister-in-law, Margaret Cameron of Rockford, Illinois; four grandchildren, Erin (Jeremie) Kilgore, Cameron Line, Blair Bruyn and Tony (Tracey) Quinn and four great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother and one sister.
Chauncey served in the US Navy from 1948-1952 during the Korean War.
He worked in management and as an engineer for Gates Rubber Company for 30 years, retiring in 1991. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1947 and attended Western Illinois University. He was a former member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce in Galesburg. Chauncey was a member of Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285, VFW #2257 and a member of the 40 and 8 Club. He served on the board and was past president of the Lake Bracken Country Club. Chauncey was a member, deacon and trustee of the First Christian Church.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 pm Monday, July 25, 2016 at the First Christian Church. Revs. Greg and MJ Fitch will officiate. Visitation will be from 12:30-1:30 pm Monday at the church. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church, Knox County Habitat for Humanity or to the GHS Band Sousaphone Fund.
