Suburban man sentenced on gun, drug charge

ELGIN, Ill. (AP) — A 24-year-old suburban Chicago man has been sentenced to prison on a gun charge stemming from a shooting and on a separate drug conviction.

The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office says Victor N. Rivera of Elgin agreed to plead guilty Wednesday to aggravated battery with a firearm for shooting someone on a porch during an argument last year.

He also pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a controlled substance after police seized around 28 grams of cocaine in a car he was driving last year.

Rivera received eight years for the firearm count and 10 for the drug conviction for the plea. He’ll serve both concurrently. Rivera will also receive more than a year credit for time served awaiting resolution of his case.
