SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — The Illinois Department of Labor is carrying out routine inspections of rides and attractions from now through the Illinois State Fair.
The agency says in a Tuesday statement that its inspectors conduct around 4,000 ride inspections at parks, carnivals and fairs around Illinois each year.
The 2016 Illinois State Fair runs from Thursday through Aug. 21.
The department is also helping with two safety-education exhibits at the fair. One is devoted to manufacturing and the other to agriculture. Part of the agriculture exhibit involves demonstrations of tractor rollover rescues.
Department of Labor Director Hugo Chaviano says he hopes the two exhibits will help “promote workplace safety both during the fair and long afterward.”
