
Mr. Richard E. “Dick” Emery, 79, of Abingdon, Illinois, formerly of Galesburg, Illinois passed away peacefully at 2:36 a.m. Saturday, August 20, 2016 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois.
He was born March 23, 1937, in Galesburg, to James and Florence Barlow Emery. He married Virginia Bennett in 1982 in Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Jeff (and Sheri) Emery of Novi, Michigan, Mike Emery of Monticello, Iowa, and Tim (and Jeanne) Emery of Loda, Illinois; two step sons, Gordon Wellons of Daphne, Alabama and Andy (and Wendy) Wellons of Grand Rapids, Michigan; three brothers; two sisters; 11 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Dick was a route driver for Frito Lay Inc. for 30 years. He also worked for Giant Foods Grocery Store in Galesburg for several years. He served in the United States Marine Corps for four years and was stationed in Okinawa and the Philippines. He was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed traveling and visiting Civil War battle grounds. Dick also enjoyed the game of baseball. He was a Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan.
