Donald L. “Don” Ivie, 84, of Galva, died at 7:00 a.m., Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Heartland Health Care Center in Galesburg. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 27 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Rev. Martin Gutzmer will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will in Galva Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the Galva Fusiliers. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
He was born August 30, 1931 in Galesburg, IL, the son of Lloyd and Opal (Haner) Ivie. He married Nancy Jean Hiatt on November 13, 1955 in Galva and she preceded him in death on June 27, 2002. He is survived by two sons, Rick (Kay) Ivie of Galesburg and Ron (Daun) Ivie of Scottsdale, AZ, four grandchildren, Craig (Cortney) Ivie, Christy Ivie, Jennifer Ivie and Marissa Ivie, a great granddaughter, Hannah and a brother, Gordon.
Don graduated from Galva High School in 1949 and served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He had worked as a technician for Contel and GTE phone companies. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Galva and the Hagburg-Hamlin American Legion. He enjoyed bass fishing, walking, golf and his family.
