Catherine Ann “Cathy” VanWassenhove, 44, of Kewanee, died at 8:44 p.m., Monday, August 29, 2016 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 2 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Rev. Jerry Rafalko will officiate. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 1 at the funeral home. Cremation will be accorded following the services and private inurnment will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Kewanee. Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established.
She was born January 12, 1972 in Galesburg, the daughter of David K. “Butch” and Victoria Ann (Mardock) Wexell. She married Thomas “Tom” VanWassenhove on September 21, 1996 in Kewanee. He survives of Kewanee, as does her mother, Vicki of Galva, three daughters, Bethany, Ashley and Megan VanWassenhove, all of Kewanee, a brother, Chad Wexell of Galva, a sister Cheri (Jim) Cavanaugh of Galva, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ron and Patricia VanWassenhove of Kewanee and a brother-in-law, Todd (Tiphanie) VanWassenhove of Andover. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, father and a brother in infancy, Leslie Kenneth.
Cathy graduated from Galva High School in 1990. She received her Associates Degree from Black Hawk East and her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from OSF St. Francis Medical Center College of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse at Kewanee Hospital for 14 years. She loved her job and had a passion for taking care of her patients. She enjoyed reading and watching TV shows.
