This Labor Day weekend, authorities will be out and about monitoring impaired driving.

Both Galesburg police and Illinois State police have joined with the Illinois Department of Transportation to implement the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.

Like most major holiday’s, authorities are conducting what they call “high-visibility” patrols–essentially showing zero-tolerance for impaired driving or seat belt violations.

According to the Associated Press, the holiday weekend last year cost 13 people their lives throughout Illinois. Three involved drivers with alcohol in their systems.

In Galesburg, Lt. Russ Idle asks those drinking to designate a sober driver or to call a cab. Nearly 200 local law enforcement agencies are taking part in the campaign this weekend.
