
Evelyn Carlson, 92, of Galesburg, died at 3:37 p.m. Friday, September 9, 2016 in the Knox County Nursing Home.
She was born August 27, 1924, in Prairie City, Illinois, the daughter of Glenn and Gladys (Orwig) Calhoun. She married Dale E. Carlson on May 9, 1948, in Prairie City. He preceded her in death February 28, 2014.
She is survived by two sons, David Glenn (and Janet Ann) Carlson of Rochester, Minnesota and John William Carlson of East Peoria, Illinois; two daughters, Ruth Anne Carlson of Galesburg and Jean Ellen (and Homer III, MD) Fleisher of Conway, Arkansas; six grandchildren, Emily Ann Carlson, Laura Lynn Carlson, Molly Megan Carlson, Michael David (and Lindsay) Fleisher, Christin Marie (and Chris) Rippy, and James Matthew Fleisher; six great grandchildren, Mathew David Fleisher, Allison Marie Rippy, Emily Kate Rippy, Samuel James Fleisher, Juliette Claire Fleisher, and James Matthew Fleisher, Jr.; and a sister, Dorothy Selander of Galesburg. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
Evelyn was a homemaker. She had also worked in the office of the former Block and Kuhl Department Store and was a teller and bookkeeper at the former First National Bank. She graduated from Prairie City High School. Evelyn was a member of Covenant Church, where she was active in the Church Circle and Children’s Church.
Visitation will be noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Covenant Church. Funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Tom Ek officiating. Burial will follow in the Prairie City Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Evelyn’s name may be made to Covenant Church.
