Shoppers will soon be able to shop at the new Kohl’s department store coming to Galesburg.
Kohl’s Public Relations Coordinator Melanie Hochschild confirmed today that the 36,325 sq. ft. facility at the Seminary Square shopping center will have a soft opening Sunday, September 25.
A grand opening and ribbon cutting is set to follow Friday, Sept. 30. The opening comes after four years of uncertainty, when Kohl’s pulled out of the area after announcing plans to open a larger store in 2012.
Last winter, the company returned asking for an amended development agreement with the city to build the smaller location. Galesburg City Council granted that amendment, as well as the initial $1.5 million tax incentive package offered for the original store plan.
Hochschild says more details about the grand opening will be announced closer to the 30th. The hours of the facility have yet to be set. Two retail locations will be attached to facility, one of which has been announced as a Pet Supplies Plus.
