Ameren, Illinois officials said today that a raccoon causing damage at an area sub-station led to much of downtown Galesburg losing power late last night and into the early morning hours.

WGIL and our group of radio stations on Simmons St. were among the businesses who lost power for a short time last night.

Outages were first reported around 11 p.m. effecting just under 800 customers–all of whom were near the city’s center.

Ameren spokeswoman Stacey Shangraw did not have information on the specific damage the animal caused or which sub-station it was, but said crews quickly responded restoring all power by 1 a.m.
