Balloons flew into a clear blue sky above Steele School today.
Teachers, classmates and family of Jaden Lester celebrated the life of the six year old who tragically passed away last week.

Yellow balloons were released by Jaden’s classmates and six turquoise balloons by Jaden’s family to represent each year of his life.

Hanging in front of Principal Matt Lingafelter was a banner that read #livelikejaden.

Lingafelter said if we all followed that hashtag they would make the world be a better place, the way Jaden did in his six years of life.

The banner also had words that described Jaden like: respectful, responsible, caring, dreamer and happy.

For all those things, Lingafelter said Jaden will forever be remembered as a superstar.

“Each morning I remind you during announcements that we’re all superstars as members of Steele School,” Lingafelter says. “Superstars are called to make a positive difference in the world. Jaden Lester was a superstar.”

Jaden was also known for his love of class hugs.

To close the celebration and to remember Jaden, his teacher Mrs. Cooper, her class, Jaden’s family and Lingafelter joined in a group hug.

Lingafelter said Jaden would’ve loved that all of Steele School was together.
