A non-profit organization aimed at helping abused and neglected children has announced they will be expanding their services into Warren County.
CASA of Knox County made that announcement to a crowd on the steps of the Warren County County Courthouse this afternoon.
With the expansion will come a number of additions, including a name change that has yet to be determined.
CASA Executive Director Sara Robison told onlookers the most important addition however, is the 15 children removed from their families who will now have individualized help through a court appointed advocate.
“This consistent adult will show that their needs are met,” Robison said. “They spend time with them on a monthly basis. They interview all of the people that are affecting their lives and the decisions in their lives. We talk to teachers, we talk to counselors, we talk to parents. Our goal is to help inform the court to make the best decision possible in the permanency and the best interest of the child.”
CASA will earn around $34,000 in grant funding this year–some of which will be used for new Warren County advocates, a part-time direct service position, and an additional part-time support staff member.
New board members and a specific Monmouth-tailored event will be added as well. CASA already serves 111 children in Knox County.
They have been a social service provider in the area since 1994.
