CHICAGO (AP) — Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart has introduced a streamlined process for bailing out jail inmates.
Dart announced the change Tuesday. It is expected to shorten the wait for a detainee’s release. People who wish to post a bond now can send an email to ccso.bonds(at)cookcountyil.gov before arriving at the Cook County Department of Corrections.
The e-mail must contain the name and phone number of the person posting the bond and the detainee’s full name, date of birth and booking number, which can be found on the Cook County sheriff’s website.
The sheriff’s office staff will begin to process the release paperwork after receiving the email. The sheriff says that if a bond cannot be posted, staff members will notify the sender quickly by email and telephone.
