Moline next up for Streaks football

The Galesburg High School football team will try to play the role of homecoming spoiler this Friday night when the Silver Streaks travel to Browning Field in Moline to battle the Maroons.  The Streaks are coming off of their first loss of the season, having fallen to Quincy in their Western Big 6 Conference opener 31-17.  The Maroons have rallied after dropping their first two games to defeat Rich South and winless United Township to improve to 2-and-2.

Veteran head coach Mike Tracey told WGIL this week that his young team is improving, but will be at a manpower disadvantage against the Silver Streaks this week.  Tracey said he believes Streaks’ lineman Matt Ricketts is the best player in the conference, and quarterback Jacob Ross is underrated with his threat to run and throw the ball.  Tracey noted that the Moline program graduated 20 of their 22 starters from last year.

Gametime is 7:30 Friday evening, with the WGIL pregame show to begin at 7:06 with Brad Bennewitz and Jim Lee.   Our halftime guest will be GHS girls tennis coach Leeanne Scherpe.
