It’s that time of the year. This weekend is the start of a fall favorite in its 37th year this year — The Knox County Scenic Drive.
The tour of Knox County’s small towns and townships will run Saturday and Sunday and then return October 8 and 9.
Galesburg Tourism Director Bill Morris says he expects more vendors throughout locations this year.
As always, official stops include the Hawthorne Centre in Galesburg, the Knox County Fairgrounds, Wolf Covered Bridge, Orange Chapel, Maquon, Knoxville and Walnut Grove Farm.
Morris tells WGIL the two weekend stint in October successfully brings in some extra tourism year after year.
“I think that what you mainly get our day trippers — people that live in our region that are used to coming and shopping at scenic drive every year,” Morris says. “We do get some other folks and we get inquires from them here at the (Galesburg) Welcome Center.”
A new amusement will take place this year. The first annual Scarecrow Festival will be in Knoxville this weekend. Morris says old favorites will be back as well.
“For example, Orange Chapel is a nice little historic church,” Morris says. “They do a wonderful job with chicken and noodles.”
Other returning favorites are crafts and music at Walnut Grove Farm and apple dumplings in Maquon.
