Illinois Department of Transportation officials say that the eastbound I-74 off ramp to Knoxville will be closed for three weeks starting Tuesday.
The cause of the closing is ramp reconstruction.
A detour route will be posted. IDOT spokesman Brian Williamsen urges drivers to use extreme caution when driving through work zones.
On Election Day, Illinois has the chance to decide on how projects like the ramp reconstruction get funded.
Voters in November will have the chance to cast ballots on an amendment to the Illinois constitution which would place all receipts of motor fuel tax, tollways, license and vehicle registration into a protected fund known as a “lockbox.”
Once in the lockbox funds could only be used for operating and maintaining public roads, bridges, railways and airports.
Transportation for Illinois Coalition, an advocacy group says nearly $6.8 billion in money intended for transportation has been used for other purposes in the last 12 years.
