A Galesburg man was found with more than 234 grams of “suspended” or unprocessed methamphetamine as well as a small amount of the substance itself during a drug bust early yesterday morning.

Twenty-five-year-old Jeffrey Jones faces unlawful participation in meth production and possession of meth charges after police found a meth lab in his 760 S. West St. home.

Authorities were driving near Academy and First St. when an officer smelled a faint chemical odor.

On a foot patrol, police noticed what was described as an “overpowering odor” coming from the S. West Street residence where Jones was later found, as was his roommate.

Jones would allow an officer into the home. He consented to a search of the house where the lab was found on the upper level with various meth making items and the substance itself.

Judge Stephen Mathers set bond at $100,000 in Knox County Circuit Court this afternoon. Mathers mentioned due to the severity of even the lessor possession charge and because of a prior meth conviction, Jones would face a minimum of six years in prison.

A public defender was appointed to the case. Jones will re-appear tomorrow at 11 a.m.
