Shelley Moore, a former Galesburg resident and ROVA graduate who was back in town for a wedding recently is driving back home in Florida a big winner.

Moore participated in the August John Deer Classic’s Birdies for Charity event, which is a golf tournament where people guess the amount of birdies the professional golfers will make.

The event allows charities to fund raise and offers prizes for donors.

Moore supports Galesburg’s Guardian Angels Humane Society.

The former Illinois resident was at the Deer & Co. World Headquarters Monday to try her luck at starting the Lexus SUV.

She was one of five finalists to try to start the car and see who won.

“The first one didn’t work and actually that person wasn’t there so a John Deere board member filled in for her and still tried the key,” Moore told Galesburg’s Morning News. “Then, I was the second one and it didn’t seem like it was going but I guess it just took a few seconds longer.”

Moore says she was supposed to flight back Cape Coral, Florida Monday morning.

“I was like ‘I’m going to be there but yet I’m supposed to go home that day,'” Moore says. “So, I moved my flight and put the insurance on it.”

She says she will now drive back and is glad she thought ahead.
