The day that many have waited for and many have dreaded is finally here.

It’s Election Day 2016 in America and Knox County polls are now open through 7 p.m. today.

Those unsure where their polling place is can visit the City of Galesburg website and click on the election office tab or knoxclerk.org.

Area voters will have plenty to decide at the polls.

Aside from deciding on who will be the next President there are races for U.S. Senate, Illinois comptroller and state representatives for the 93rd and 74th districts.

The new Knox County Board will be selected as well. Depending on a voter’s address they’ll get to choose a part of five open seats.

East Moline Democrat Cheri Bustos will try to regain her seat. She’s being challenged in the race for the 17th U.S. Congressional district by Galesburg Republican Patrick Harlan.

Two match ups for judges in the 9th Circuit will be settled as well. The choice is between Ray Cavanaugh or Jim Harrell and Dave Hansen or Heidi Benson.

A Knox County Coroner’s race will be decided, as well.

First on the ballot is a question on a constitutional amendment that would prevent the state from using money made from transportation from being used for other purposes.

Galesburg Election Commission Director Lisa Watson assures that voters who are in line before polls close will get to place a ballot.
