
Galesburg residents voted decisively to elect Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and Representative Tammy Duckworth, but were the opposite of Knox County residents split on the state U.S. Senate race.City residents chose Clinton over Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump 52 percent to 39.5 percent.
Knox County residents chose Trump by 7 percentage points, 58. 5 percent to 35.5 percent.
Libertarian Gary Johnson received less than 5 percent of the votes of Galesburg and Knox County residents.
Duckworth, a Democrat, got 54 percent of the vote of Galesburg residents, compared with 39.4 percent of the city residents going for incumbent Republican Senator Mark Kirk.
But more than half of Knox County residents voted for Kirk, compared with 39 percent voting for Duckworth.
Exit polls showed Duckworth won 4 out of 5 women voters, split the white vote and easily won over nonwhite voters.
