An amendment to the Illinois constitution to ban the state from using revenue made from transportation sources for other purposes passed with an overwhelming majority.
Nearly 79 percent said yes to the amendment across the state and Knox County fell right in line with the rest of Illinois.
Both Galesburg and Knox County as a whole also by about a 59 point margin said yes.
Illinois also elected a new comptroller in Democrat Susana Mendoza.
Republican Leslie Munger was the incumbent although she had been appointed to the post two years ago by Gov. Bruce Rauner folllowing the death of Judy Baar Topinka.
Galesburg and the rest of the Knox were split on this race.
Mendoza won Galesburg with 53 percent but Munger won the rest of the county with 56 percent.
Mendoza will now serve the 2 years remaining of Baar Topinka’s term.
She mentioned the late comptroller during her victory speech saying Baar Topinka is missed but that she “would be proud of what Illinois did today.”
