Hundreds of Knox College students gathered on campus and many marched through downtown Galesburg this afternoon protesting Republican Donald Trump as president elect of the United States.

White, Black, Hispanic — hugs, crying and anger. An outpouring from many Knox students made their voices heard about Tuesday’s election result for president.

Starting around 1 p.m., opinions were shared through a megaphone on the patio of the Knox Gizmo for about an hour before a slew of protesters marched the streets downtown.

Throughout the course of the afternoon, the protest remained peaceful. Though, it did not come without some harsh words from many who spoke.

“If this country’s not willing to fight for the rights of every American, then that is not a party that should be representing us,” a student who did not identify himself said. “Donald Trump is not my president! That’s not my house! That’s not my senate! This is not my country!”

Criticisms ranged from what protesters described as the bigotry of Trump himself to distaste with those who voted for him.

Others spoke of hope and love which they expressed they believe trumps the decision made by American voters.
