Democrat John Curtis and incumbent Republican Norine Hammond had a nail biter tonight, but Hammond is claiming victory in the 93rd State Rep. District.

Vote totals from Schuyler and Brown counties have still not been declared, but the McDonough County Voice reports Hammond’s election night party have determined a win.

Meanwhile, the 74th State Rep. District has a new man at the helm for the first time since the early 1990’s.

Republican Dan Swanson will take over for longtime Rep. Don Moffitt after unofficially securing 66 percent of the vote over opponent Bill Butts. Swanson told WGIL he couldn’t be prouder to continue Moffitt’s legacy.

“Don will be going to Springfield here for a veto session,” Swanson said.” Once he returns, I plan to spend a lot of time with Don to get a feel for what his agenda moving forward might be and that I need to help push. But then to also establish my foothold in the statehouse.”

And it was Democrat Cheri Bustos securing a third term as the 17th District Congresswoman. She thanked her supporters during a victory speech.

“What you do, is you have given me the opportunity to wake up each and every morning and fight for what we believe in and what our values are,” Bustos said. “So, thank you very much to all of our supporters and volunteers for what you’ve done as well.”

Bustos held off Knox County Tea Party President Patrick Harlan to win re-election.

All totals remain unofficial.
