
Mrs. Jean E. Forbes, 99, of Galesburg, Illinois died Friday, November 11, 2016 at 7:45 p.m. at Rosewood Care Center in Galesburg.She was born August 9, 1917 in Cedar Falls, Iowa the daughter of George O. and Irena B. Simpson Hendrickson. She married Harry E. Forbes June 9, 1958 in Ames, Iowa. He preceded her in death November 18, 1999.
Jean is survived by three step daughters Betty Higbee, Sandy (and Don) Gillenwater, and Ada (and Joe) Trone all of Galesburg, one sister Mary Berry of Webster, New York, one sister in law, Velma Hendrickson of Des Moines, Iowa, six step grandchildren, twelve step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Bob Hendrickson, three sisters, Ruth Kessler, Carol Taylor and Elizabeth Enenbach, and one step grandchild.
She graduated from Ames High School in 1935 and Iowa State University in 1939. After graduation she was a staff editor for the Gourmet Magazine and then worked for Thor Manufacturing Company and Gas Service Company in Kansas City. She moved to Galesburg and was a home economist for Admiral Corporation for 10 years and then was a teacher at Costa School for 17 years.
She was a member and past officer for the Knox County Genealogical Society, the Daughters of American Revolution, Rebecca Parke Chapter, Oliver Wendell Homes Club, Galesburg Women’s Club, League of Women Voters, Colonial Dames of 17th Century, Home Economists of Knox County, Illinois, Indiana, and Warren County Genealogy Societies, OAKS, Sigma Alpha Iota Music Sorority, and active in Hope Cemetery Association Board. She was of the Presbyterian faith.
Funeral services will be 12:00 Noon Wednesday, November 15, 2016 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel Galesburg. Rev. James Ecklund will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Knox County Genealogical Society or Hope Cemetery Association.
