The Galesburg Silver Streaks started off their season tonight with a win against the Alleman Pioneers in the Thanksgiving Tournament and the final score was 53-31.

The Streaks dominated the Pioneers on both sides of the court tonight and held them to just 29 points by the end of the 3rd Quarter.

Kaylah Townsell was tonight’s Dave’s Autobody Crunchtime Player of the Game. She ended the night with 9 points, 8 assists, 6 steals, 1 block and 2 rebounds.

Coach Evan Massey told WGIL’s Tom Meredith that he thought their “execution for their first game wasn’t bad but we didn’t have people knocking down shots with regularity, which creates a frustration for the perimeter players that are shooters..”

The team will not be able to practice in Thiel Gym which is still under renovation. According to Coach Massey, some of the players have not been in Thiel Gym since the sectional game with Washington last year.

An Open House will be held in Thiel Gym at 6pm on Thursday then Game 2 of the Thanksgiving Tournament will then follow on Friday night. WGIL’s Tom Meredith and Erik Gibson will bring you live coverage of that game with a 5:40 PM pre-game on 93.7 FM and 1400 AM WGIL and on wgil.com.
