Rescue Mission Share-a-Thon pulls in $55,000 in one day

The Galesburg Rescue Mission and Women’s Shelter is renowned for lending a helping hand to Galesburg residents when they need it the most.
Well, yesterday the Galesburg area stepped up to lend the Rescue Mission a hand.

Contributions from 421 individual donors topped near $55,000 for the organization’s Harvesttime Share-a-thon. 

Guests on the program portion of the Share-a-thon on WGIL Saturday included Mayor John Pritchard and longtime State Rep. Don Moffitt alongside wife, Carolyn.

Moffitt is stepping down from his seat in the Illinois General Assembly but promised to continue supporting the Rescue Mission’s work.

“We appreciate what you do, what the Rescue Mission does, we appreciate the radio station for hosting us,” Moffitt says. “Thank you.”

Mayor John Pritchard read an official proclamation on behalf of the city to commend the Rescue Mission.

Pritchard both as a businessman and mayor emphasized how invaluable their service is to the community is.

“We’d like to think we don’t have any homeless people but we do and we’re grateful that you guys undertake the mission to provide services to those people,” Pritchard says.

The Rescue Mission is open 365 days a year.
