The Discovery Depot has it’s biggest fundraiser of the year next Thursday. The Festival of Trees is an adult-only evening full of food, drink, prizes and of course trees.

It’s been a big year for the Galesburg children’s museum.

They’ve been celebrating their 20 year anniversary this year, looking back at how they started as a kiosk at the Sandburg Mall to now having their own building where they hold over 30 programs.

Discovery Depot Executive Director Denise Bradburn says dollars raised from Festival of Trees go into the museum’s operating costs.

She tells Galesburg’s Evening News on WGIL that the fundraiser to keep those programs free or low-cost will take on the theme of “elegance” this year.

“This year we took a theme to our Festival of Trees and I would say our theme throughout will be elegance,” Bradburn says. “So when you come to the Festival of Trees this year you’re going to notice a big difference in the decor and how we’ve approached Festival.”

There will be a regular cavalcade of prizes to bid on from live and silent auctions including Disney World passes, a signed Jake Arrieta baseball and a Cubs refrigerator.

The night of the event is Thursday Dec. 1 and begins at 5 p.m.

Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door.

While the Discovery Depot will be closed during regular business hours next week, there will be staff at the building to sell Festival of Trees tickets.
