It wouldn’t be Christmas without strands of lights, Santa figurines and molded reindeer prancing off of your neighbors roof.
Galesburg resident Neil Unger has had a Christmas display for many years and it’s safe to say he has a few lights and other decorations for passersbys to see.
“So far, I don’t have a total yet, but last year I can tell you we had 18,000 miniature lights and approximately 350 individually lighted figures.”
The display has moved over the years, but it currently shines bright at 2080 E. Fremont St. New this year is a working fire place to house electric logs, as well as some other projects Unger says are still in the works.
Unger has spoken with WGIL in years past and says his annual tradition continues to grow each year.
“I promise you that if you get close you’ll see the glow,” Unger says. “You can see it from the 34 bypass and from the interstate if you look quickly. Some people have thought you might be able to see it from space, but I think that’s an exaggeration.”
The display will be on every evening from 5:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. and until midnight on Christmas.
