Here is a recap of tonight’s Boys Basketball game from WGIL’s Brad Bennewitz:
“A showdown between two undefeated teams to start off the Western Big 6 Conference season turned out to be just exactly the kind of game you might have expected. But it was United Township, undefeated at 5-0 now, that comes out with a win over a previously undefeated Silver Streaks team 51-48. Silver Streaks had a chance to tie the game with a final shot, in fact, Galesburg ran off almost the final minute of the game after UT got a basket to go up by three. Silver Streaks did get off the final shot with Cornell Dotson launching a 3-pointer from the right side that came up empty and the clock ran out at that point, helping UT to the 51-48 win.
“They got 20 points from Thomas Hughes to lead the way. Three players in double figures with the Panthers, Traveon Buchanan finishing with 14, and Devynn Wakefield with 10. For the Silver Streaks TJ Pendleton had a monster first half, but was limited by foul trouble in the second half, still lead the Streaks with 17 points and 8 rebounds as the only player in double figures. Our Dave’s Autobody Crunch Time Player of the Game, Andrew Anderson, off the bench, had a couple of big baskets to lead a Streaks rally in the 4th quarter. Galesburg fell down by 5, got back within in 1, but then ended up losing it by 3 at the end.
“Streaks are 0-1 in the Western Big 6 as UT is now tied with Rock Island and Quincy at the top of the Conference after the first week of play. Silver Streaks will be at home against Alleman next Friday night before taking off on the road next Saturday for their first road game of the season at Morton. Galesburg Sophomores also lost 52-42 to finish off a United Township sweep.”
