Phyllis E. Tarleton, 89, of Galva, died at 8:01 a.m., Saturday, December 3, 2016 in the emergency room at OSF Saint Luke Medical Center, Kewanee. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 9 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 8 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Galva  Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Galva Fire Department, Stark County Ambulance Service or the Hook & Bullet Conservation Club.

She was born January 30, 1927 in the Dairy Barn at Bishop Hill, the daughter of Julius B. and Elizabeth (Falk) Anderson. She married William “Bill” Tarleton on June 5, 1949  in Bishop Hill and he preceded her in death on May 3, 1986. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a daughter and two brothers, Bud and Benny. She is survived by two sons, Mike (Deb) Tarleton and Denny (Joyce) Tarleton  both of Galva, three grandchildren, Shawn Tarleton, Megan (Dale) Keilman  and Chase Tarleton ( and Nora Carlson), two great grandchildren, Ally and Abby, her siblings, Marion “Babe” (Lewis “Louie”) Nelson and Eleanor “Nore” Larson both of Bishop Hill and Jack (Dorothy) Anderson of Woodhull and several nieces and nephews.

Phyllis attended school in Bishop Hill and graduated from Woodhull High School. She was a member of the Bishop Hill Community United Methodist Church. In earlier years, she and her husband Bill owned and operated th Valkommen Inn in Bishop Hill with the help of her sisters, Nore and Babe and her cousin Patty Chilberg. She had also worked for various places over the years including the Galva News, Ron Root Insurance, the Bowling Alley, at the cafeteria at Galva High School, as a bartender for her brother at Jack’s Place in Woodhull and as a secretary and bookkeeper for Rux Funeral Home in Galva.  She enjoyed sewing, coffee and rusks and her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
