SUBLETTE, Ill. (AP) — Several charities in northern Illinois benefit from farmers who choose to donate portions of their crops.Sublette Farmers Elevator manager Steve Klein tells The (LaSalle) News Tribune that it’s not uncommon for farmers to set aside part of the proceeds for good causes.
Those include churches, youth organizations, schools, the local 4-H center and others. Klein says some farmers give bushels and there are about a half-dozen charities that they donate to. Beneficiaries have been the Waltham Elementary Education Foundation and Kreider Services in Dixon.
Klein says as many as a dozen farmers make donations. He says other elevators probably offer a similar service in their communities. Klein says any grain can be set aside for donations but most farmers donate a portion of their corn crops.
