Pam Davidson is fresh off becoming Knox County Board Chairwoman and she’s shaking things up.Davidson says she will condense the five sub-committees of the board into four.
The finance and building committees will stay as is, but the committees that oversee other county departments will be shuffled.
One is what Davidson calls the “people” or “caring” committee which will consist of oversight of the nursing home, sheriff’s department, Mary Davis Home and animal control.
The fourth committee will oversee the highway, landfill, assessor, recorder and GIS departments.
Davidson tells WGIL that with less committees most of them will have more members on them.
“I want to make sure enough people are on there to make a quorum and more people can be involved in the committees,” Davidson says.
Davidson also has to appoint new chairs to these committees.
She is sitting down with individual board members to learn about which committees could make use of their particular skills and interests.
Davidson has promised that committee chairs will continue to be a mix of Republican and Democratic members and thinks she will have made her decisions by late next week.
The District 3 Democrat also says that she will be a voting member on all four of the committees and will remain as the board liaison to the Board of Health.
Most members are on two committees, with some serving on three if for example they were the board’s representative on the 911 Board or Knox County Partnership for Economic Development.
