Here is a recap of tonight’s game from WGIL’s Tom Meredith:
“The Galesburg Silver Streaks fell in the Championship game of the Mattoon Holiday Tournament to the host Mattoon by a final of 45-40 tonight, the first ever loss for the Streaks in this tournament. They had been 19-0 coming into this game tonight, and now they are 19-1, but a good effort by a shorthanded Streaks team. Kaylah Townsell out with an ankle injury from yesterday night’s game, so they were short there. A lot of foul trouble early on between Kylee Townsell, Emily Meinert, Ellen Junk all in a little bit of foul trouble as well, but a valiant effort by the Streaks with a chance to possibly tie the game late with about 19 seconds left, but Mattoon comes out with the win.
“The Green Wave 18-0, the Streaks fall to 14-3. The Streaks made the All-Tournament team, four players on the All-Tournament team, Kaylah Townsell, Kylee Townsell, Saige Milroy, and Andrea Sampson all made the All-Tournament team for the Streaks. Saige led the way, in the ball game, with 19 points including 5 3-pointers in the ballgame. She was also our Dave’s Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. The Streaks outscored in the second half 28-22 after being up 18-17 at Halftime. Again a valiant effort by a shorthanded Streaks team here at Mattoon, and they fall for the first time ever in this Tournament. But a great effort and a second place trophy losing to an undefeated team. Final score Mattoon 45 – Galesburg 40.
